On the pump bottle of neutrogena deep clean facial cleanser, it only mention that it is oil free and alcohol free but not any point whether it is soap free or not.Neutrogena deep clean facial cleanser, normal to oily skin - is this cleanser 100% soap free?
Short answer: yes, it is almost certainly soap free, and I'll explain why below, but you may still want to consider something more gentle.
Long answer: Well, here's the thing... true soap is a very specific substance, made of sodium (soda ash) or potassium (potash) salts, and its made by reacting fat with lye. Almost nothing is actually soap anymore, even things that call themselves ';soaps.'; They are detergents, not real soaps.
So when you see something that says ';soap free,'; that essentially just means it is free of fat reacted with lye. Most products are soap-free, even the ones that don't mention it.
What this means for you is that is it HIGHLY improbable that the Deep Clean Facial Cleanser contains soap. More likely, it is made up of detergents and thickeners like all other Neutrogena facial cleansers. What you need to worry about is how irritating the other ingredients are. There are two things you can do. You can look up all the ingredients on the label here: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/dictio鈥?/a> to see if any of the ingredients are irritants. Or you can switch to something like a Cetaphil cleanser, or if you really like Neutrogena, their Fresh Foaming Cleanser Soap-Free Cleanser for Combination Skin or One Step Gentle Cleanser, both of which are recommended by skin care experts (and I don't mean ';experts'; employed by the company!). Any of these cleansers are very gentle, which is what you want.Neutrogena deep clean facial cleanser, normal to oily skin - is this cleanser 100% soap free?
