Are you talking about the Spurs team (which is the most multicultural team int he NBA atm), which they grow their beards because it's lucky. They just do it, the whole team, if you noticed, grows their beard.
Some of them want to look tough. Say for examle, Manu Ginobili. Without his facial hair, he looks like a good kid being preyed by bullies. For others, it has just been customary like Vlade, etc.
